Aimed at those just starting their genealogy research or those who have been researching for a while but need to bring their skills up to recognised standards in the field. The course covers Getting Started, Citing and Referencing, Recording Data, Organisation, Family History Software, Search Skills, Basic Australian, UK, Ireland and Germany sources, Transcribing and Abstracting, Basic Writing and the Genealogical Proof Standard.

Successfully completing this program leads to the status of Novitiate of the College and eligibility to enter an Apprenticeship with the College.

If you believe you have acquired these skills elsewhere, to the requirements of the BCG Genealogical Standard, you may apply for an Assessment only Option for this program.

This course builds on the skills gained in the Basic and Intermediate Courses in Genealogical Research, focussing on the skills needed to effectively communicate your research to others. It also covers Advanced DNA techniques, Advanced Records from Australia, UK, Ireland and Germany, and Advanced Research and Analysis.
